Prathap Pothen, an actor and director from the South Indian cinema industry, died on Friday in Chennai. He was 69 years of age.
According to initial reports, the actor died of natural causes, a police officer who confirmed the actor’s death in his Kilpauk Garden Road apartment claimed. The officer said that the Kilpauk Police would look into the matter further.
The actor “died away in his sleep,” according to his wife, who provided memorable performances in the Tamil and Malayalam cinema industries. In his career, the filmmaker participated in about 100 movies. In 1978, he made his acting debut in the Malayalam film Aaravam. Later, he starred alongside Kamal Haasan in the renowned K Balachander film Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu. Among his previous films, Pratap Pothen directed Vetri Vizha, a smash hit with Kamal Haasan.
Meendum Oru Kathal Kathai, Moodupani, and Panneer Pushpangal are a few of his Tamil-language movies. Throughout his career, he also played a variety of characters, some of which had dark overtones. Several actors paid their tributes to the legend of Indian Cinema.
Pothen leaves behind his wife and child. He had appeared in more than 100 Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu movies. He has also worked as a producer, director, and screenplay.Actor Kamal Hassan expressed his condolences for Prathap Pothen’s passing by saying that he had a deep interest in serious literature and independent films.
