A Manimekhalai has been appointed as the first woman MD and CEO of Union Bank of India. On Friday, the government-owned bank announced the nomination of Canara Bank Executive Director for a three-year term, beginning on the date of assumption of office and ending when additional orders are issued, whichever comes first.
Manimekhalai was appointed to replace Rajkiran Rai G, whose term ended on May 31. She would be available for a two-year extension of her term or until March 2026, whichever comes first.
Manimekhalai, a seasoned banker with almost three decades of expertise, joined Vijaya Bank as an officer in 1988. Prior to joining the Union Bank of India, She worked at Canara Bank as an Executive Director, where she was in charge of strategy planning, credit and associated matters, inspection, marketing, and financial inclusion, State Level Lead Bank responsibilities, and the operation of Regional Rural Banks.
