According to Reuters, Russia’s military ministry stated on Saturday that the Ukrainian town of Lyman has fallen completely under the control of Russian and Russian-backed forces in eastern Ukraine. The statement comes a day after pro-Russian rebels from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic announced that the town, a railway hub west of Sievierodonetsk, had been entirely taken.
According to the TASS news agency, a ship has entered the Ukrainian port of Mariupol for the first time since Russia finished its conquest of the city to load metal and send it east to Russia, a move that Kyiv has condemned as stealing. According to TASS, the tanker will carry 2,700 tonnes of metal before heading 160 kilometres east to the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don on Monday.
The defence ministry claimed Saturday that Russia successfully test-fired a hypersonic Zircon cruise missile over a distance of around 1,000 kilometres. According to the report, the missile was launched from the Barents Sea and hit a target in the White Sea. The missile was fired from a ship and blazed into the sky on a steep trajectory, according to video given by the ministry.
A Communist Party parliamentary representative in Russia’s  Far East, however, defied the party line in a rare show of dissent against his country’s conflict in Ukraine, demanding an end to the military action and the departure of Russian forces. “We understand that unless our country stops the military operation, we will have more orphans,” the deputy warned at a meeting of the Primorsk regional Legislative Assembly in Russia.
