Shami, Siraj, Shardul set to join India Squad in Australia; Chahar ruled out

Three pacers Shami, Siraj and Shardul Thakur are set to join India Squad in Australia for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Mohammad Shami is considered as the front runner to replace injured Bumrah for the World Cup who was firstly named as a stand-by player. His final fitness test is today.

Mohammad Siraj has performed brilliantly in recently concluded 3-match ODI series against South Africa in which he took 5-wickets and was given ‘Man of the series‘ award. Shardul Thakur is selected for his all-round abilities after Deepak Chahar was ruled out due to back injury.

“Deepak will take some time to get fit. His back issue has flared up again. His ankle is fine and there wasn’t any problem there. So BCCI is sending three reinforcements. Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj and Shardul Thakur”, a BCCI official told PTI.

The other two stand-by players – Shreyas Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi will not travel to Australia now. Sources said, if anything happens to Chahal then Bishnoi will replace him while Shreyas will replace a batsman. Iyer also had a wonderful ODI series against RSA in which he even smashed a century in Ranchi.

All three pacers will soon join Indian team in Australia. They will get enough time, before the first match against Pakistan on October 23, to acclimatisations to the conditions. They will understand pace and bounce of Australian pitches. BCCI has to name the replacement of Jasprit Bumrah by October 15 to finally announce 15-members of India Squad for the World Cup.
