According to sources, India today delivered another shipment of goods to Afghanistan as part of its humanitarian assistance to the war torn country, which contained essential medications and medical supplies.
Over the previous six months, India has delivered 45 tonnes of medical aid to Afghanistan in 13 batches, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). According to officials, India has a “special bond” with the Afghan people and is providing the support in response to the UN’s urgent requests for assistance.
The MEA further said that, 13th batch of medical aid from India included infusions pumps, sphygmomanometer mobile type with paediatric BP cuffs, drip chamber set, electro cautery, paediatric stethoscopes, nylon sutures and other medical and surgical supplies.
Officials from Kabul’s Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital received the supplies. MEA also added that, India has so far donated roughly 45 tonnes of medical supplies, including 500,000 doses of COVID vaccine, anti-TB drugs, and other medical and surgical supplies.
India has also sent 40,000 metric tonnes of wheat to the Afghan people. India has been pushing for unlimited humanitarian supplies to be provided to Afghanistan in order to address the humanitarian crisis that has arisen there since the Taliban seized power there. India has consistently pushed for the development of a Kabul government that truly represents all Afghans while refusing to recognise the new Afghan administration.
Additionally, India has stressed that no terrorist acts against other countries may occur on Afghan territory. India reestablished its diplomatic presence in Kabul by dispatching a technical team there in June. India withdrew its ambassadorial staff in August, following the Taliban takeover.
