Three children and two women died and 64 others were injured after a fire broke out in a Durga Puja Pandal in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district on Sunday night, Police said. The incident happened during the Aarti ritual on the seventh day of the Navratri festival. It is said that the worst nightmare happened due to overheated halogen lamp.
According to the police, around 150 people were watching a night show when the blaze broke out. Firefighters rushed to the spot and rescued many injured. All injured people are receiving treatments in different hospitals in which 5 are in critical condition.
An FIR has been lodged against the organisers of the EKTA Club Pooja Samiti which has been conducting it for over a decade. The accused have been charged under various sections of the IPC, including 304 A (causing death by negligence), 326 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means). All possible steps have been taken to provide treatments to all injured at best under guidance of the Administration.
