An Indonesian Football Match got wild, 129 killed & 180 injured

A football match in Indonesia got wild, when losing team fans started attack on the opponents. Indonesian police said on sunday that 129 people had died and more than 180 were injured after the violence in the province of East Java overnight.

The match was between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya, one of the biggest arch-rivals of football in Indonesia. After the match, supporters from the losing side had invaded the field, in reponse, police had fired tear gas, triggering a stampede and suffocation.

The Indonesian top league BRI Liga 1 has suspended all matches for a week and an investigation had been launched, the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) said. In that match, team Persebaya won 3-2 which losing side supporters could not absorb and got all wild against winning team supporters, police and even players. Some players were also injured along with policemen.

There have been cases of outbreak in games and sports across the world. The fans are sometimes so deeply connected that they can’t absorb the feelings of lose. They should understand that it’s a game and for a result, one team has to lose. They are the backbone, they should promote it and bravely accept the results.
