Ashok Gehlot, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, announced on Friday that all top leaders had chosen to support Mallikarjun Kharge’s candidacy for the position of party head. Mr. Gehlot, who announced on Thursday that he would not run for office, also vowed his support for Mr. Kharge.
After seeing him at his Delhi home on 10, Rajaji Marg residence, Mr. Gehlot told in front of Mr. Kharge’s house that “all key leaders have collectively decided on Kharge’s candidacy”. Former Union minister Shashi Tharoor will challenge Mr. Kharge.
Mr. Gehlot avoided responding directly when asked if he had filed a letter of resignation in his capacity as Chief Minister of Rajasthan. “I have had the Gandhi family’s backing for the past 50 years and have worked at various occupations. Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Indira Gandhi have all blessed me”.
He Stated that, “I believe that party building strategies are more crucial than actual positions. I’ll exert myself to accomplish it”. Mr. Gehlot begged everybody to help Mr. Kharge resurrect the party after the election. Even Shashi Tharoor had stated that it was a friendly game and that Congress will prevail following the elections, he continued.
“He has both local and international experience,” says Mr. Gehlot of Mr. Kharge, who has won elections 10 to 12 times. Ashok Gehlot said that, I support his decision to contest”.
