Russia redraws Ukraine: Annexes four regions

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday declared four new regions of the country. He said, according to the referendums in parts of occupied Ukraine, with more than 96% votes, millions of people wish to join Russia. Russia has appointed heads of the four regions: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. The area of these four regions is equal to Hungary. This is second time in 8 years when Putin tried to change the map of Europe and Ukraine. Ukraine and Western countries strongly objected the action as ‘breach of International law’. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Gutteres said that the so-called referendums “would have no legal values and deserves to be condemned”. The lands occupied by Russia is estimated to be 18% of Ukraine.

There are four new regions of Russia”, said Putin in a televised ceremony on Friday from the Kremlin in Moscow.

International media say, the lands are forcefully occupied by Russia on Nuclear-weapons threat. Putin occupied these regions, to cut off supply of weapons from western countries, mainly America, at a moment when President Biden announced to send 18 more High Mobility Artillery Rocket System launchers to Ukraine. There is continous pressure on Russia to cease the war immediately. NATO countries have been warning Russia for the worst possible face-off if not stand down. NATO countries have been supporting Ukraine with weapons, food, security and tactics against Russia. G7 countries have done a solid job targeting Russian economy and applying sanctions to bull-dozer its economy. More than 2 lakh Russians have fled the country to avoid being conscripted into the military as part of a new mobilization. After 7 months into the war, Russia is feeling shortage of energetic and active soldiers, they are also compelled to retreat in certain areas.

The west is looking for new opportunities to hit us and they always dreamt about breaking our country into small states who will fight against each other”, said Putin.

Recently held SCO summit at historic city of Sammarkand, Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Putin and talked on certain issues and ideas to strengthen bilateral ties. Modi said, “it is no more an era of war” and raised food, fertilizer and fuel security among major concerns of the world at the moment. Putin responded and said,”he also wants to end the war as soon as possible“.
