Congress is once again under political crisis when 82 MLAs of the Rajasthan government have threatened to submit their resignation to speaker CP Joshi. The threat came in reponse to the suspense over successor of, CM Gehlot, if he gets elected as the Congress party President in October. The MLAs are also angry with no meeting or discussion about next CM candidate and the role of CM Gehlot in the state in future. All the MLAs have a common saying that they don’t want any candidate who ever tried to break the party. The speculation says, Congress Legislature Party meeting may decide to hand over the Rajasthan government to its Former Deputy CM Sachin Pilot.
The congress party is now under damage control mode after receiving threat from 82 MLAs in Rajasthan. CM Gehlot said, if elected for the party president post, he may continue to hold the chair of Rajasthan CM as well as party’s national president. Rahul Gandhi, who is busy in “Bharat Jodo Yatra” responded and said that the party believes in “One Man, One Post” and so there is no such possibility for Gehlot to hold two posts at a time.
The Congress has government in only 2 states on its own- Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. Apart from that they share power in Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Jharkhand. The toppling of this government in Rajasthan will a huge set back for congress, where on one side Rahul Gandhi eyeing 2024 general election with “Bharat Jode Yatra” and on other side, there is an alliance forming with opposition parties for mission 2024 to throw out the BJP government.
The election for the party president will be on 17th October and result will be declared on October 19. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has collected the nomination paper, Digvijay Singh is also in the race along with Ashok Gehlot. The upcoming days will be very important for the Congress and its destiny. The elected President will have a tough job of running the party back on its legacy. India’s oldest party is in trouble, will they bounce back??
