Scott Morrison, Australia’s prime minister, acknowledges loss in the 2022 election

Following Scott Morrison’s defeat in Saturday’s national elections, opposition leader Anthony Albanese is expected to become Australia’s prime minister.

“Tonight I spoke to the head of the opposition and the incoming Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, and I congratulated him on his election victory,” Morrisson told his followers.

Morrison also announced his resignation as Liberal Party leader, according to Sky News.

CNN quoted him as stating, “I’ve always believed in Australians and their judgement, and I’ve always been willing to accept their judgement.

Labor is expected to form a government for the first time since 2013, with Anthony Albanese becoming the country’s 31st Prime Minister, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Saturday night.

The result brings the coalition’s nearly nine-year reign  to an end, as does Morrison’s stint as Prime Minister. Morrison was elected Prime Minister of Australia in 2018.
