Olympic gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won the prestigious Diamond League Finals trophy, becoming the first Indian to do so. Neeraj Chopra started things off with a foul, but he rapidly rose to the top with the winning throw—an 88.44-meter throw—on his second attempt. His next four throws covered distances of 88.00, 86.11, 87.00, and 83.60 metres.

The 24-year-old Indian superstar is presently the Olympic champion, World Championships silver medalist, and Diamond League champion. He had finished them all in only 13 months. He had taken home the Olympic gold on August 7 of the last year in Tokyo.

He has achieved throws of 88 metres or longer six times this season, showcasing his consistency. By clearing 89.94 metres this year, he established a new national record. For the third time, Chopra was taking part in the Diamond League Finals. He has finished eighth and fourth, respectively, in 2017 and 2018.

In addition, Neeraj Chopra got a Diamond Trophy, US$30,000 which is around 24 Lakhs in terms of Indian rupees in prize money, and a wild card to the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Therefore, he has already secured a berth in the World Championships due to the fact that his winning throw in the Lausanne leg was farther than the necessary 85.20 metres.
