All about Cyrus Mistry:

The Shapoorji Pallonji Group, a conglomerate that began with a construction enterprise founded by Pallonji Mistry’s grandfather in the 19th century, was headed by Cyrus Mistry, the conglomerate’s younger son.

Before finishing his higher education in England, Cyrus attended the prestigious Cathedral and John Connon Schools in Mumbai. He earned a degree in civil engineering from Imperial College, London, and a master’s in management from the London Business School.

He joined the family business in 1991 by taking a position as director at the construction firm Shapoorji Pallonji & Co. Ltd. Additionally, Pallonji Mistry was on the board of the Tata Group, a similarly sized Mumbai-based corporation run by the Tatas, a well-known Parsi family.

Pallonji withdrew from the Tata Group board in 2006, and Cyrus, then 38, took his position. When Ratan Tata, the group’s chairman since 1991, announced his retirement in 2012, Cyrus was appointed vice chairman of the Tata Group with the clear intention of succeeding him as chairman a year later.

Only two non-Tatas have led the Tata Group, including Cyrus.
In October 2016, Cyrus—the sixth chairman of Tata Sons—was relieved of his duties. Later, N Chandrasekaran took over as Tata Sons’ executive chairman.

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLATDecember )’s 2019 decision reinstating Cyrus as the chairman of Tata Sons Limited was overturned by the Supreme Court in March 2021.

In April 2021, SP Group and Cyrus Mistry petitioned the Supreme Court for a review of its March 26 order approving Tata Son’s choice to fire him as chairman.

But in May of this year, the Supreme Court rejected Cyrus’s request for a review of the Tata v. Mistry case.
