Amlan Borgohain breaks National Record, becomes Fastest Indian 100m sprinter

AMLAN BORGOHAIN OF ASSAM at the Inter-railway Athletics Championships in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, ran the men’s 100 metres in 10.25 seconds, breaking the previous National record. The 24-year-old Amlan is now the country’s fastest in both the sprint events.

He set a new national record for the men’s 200 metres earlier this year at the Federation Cup with a time of 20.52 seconds.

Amiya Kumar Malick previously held the record for the 100 metres, clocking it in 10.26 seconds. The time Amlan ran on Monday was significantly faster than his previous best time of 10.34 seconds.

Once all the paperwork, including the specifics of the picture finish, has been gathered from the organizers, the Athletics Federation of India will start the process of ratifying the record.

Amlan initially played football, but his mother advised him to stop since he was being hurt so frequently.

“My mother urged me to either cease doing sports altogether or switch to another one. Football was no longer a viable alternative.”
Amlan had previously informed  that it had been a difficult decision to make. In retrospect, the fastest guy in India made the proper sport choice.
