US Vice News journalist deported from Delhi

India based US journalist, Angad Singh is a documentary producer for Vice News, a news and entertainment company based in the United States.

The  Emmy-nominated journalist of Indian origin working with America’s VICE News was denied entry into India on Wednesday and was deported to New York, his mother has alleged. The mother claimed that her journalist son paid the price for speaking the truth, and he was deported as a result.

“They didn’t give a reason. But we know it is his award winning journalism that scares them. It is the stories he did and the stories he is capable of. It is the love for his Motherland that they can’t stand.” wrote his mother Gurmeet Singh on Facebook

The U.S. The Embassy spokesperson declined to comment on the matter “out of respect for the privacy of American citizens.”

Anand Singh is a documentary producer at Vice News, an American news and entertainment company. Among his recent works are a documentary on the Shaheen Bagh protests and one on COVID-19’s deadly second wave in India, which was also nominated for an Emmy.

The deportation of Mr. Singh occurred less than two hours after Mr. Singh arrived in Delhi at 8.30 pm on Wednesday. He was here for a family reunion.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and airport officials have not commented on Mr. Singh’s deportation yet.
