Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the former leader of Sri Lanka, plans to return to the United States, applies for Green Card

According to numerous news outlets, the former President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who fled the country in July of this year following violent riots over the island’s economic woes, has applied for a Green Card with the US government. According to reports, Rajapaksa’s attorneys have started the process of applying for permanent residency in the US.

The ex-attorneys president’s used the fact that his wife Loma Rajapaksa is a US citizen as justification for his eligibility. In order to run for president in 2019, Rajapaksa relinquished his citizenship.

Rajapaksa is currently in Thailand with his wife. On August 25, he will return to Sri Lanka.

Travelling From One Country To Another:

Rajapaksa spent more than a month in Singapore before travelling to Thailand.

On August 11, in the late evening, he arrived in Thailand. After the Maldives, Thailand was the second country in Southeast Asia where he temporarily sought refuge.

Security Concerns in Thailand:

Rajapaksa is reportedly confined to a hotel in Bangkok and isn’t permitted to leave because of safety reasons, according to Thai media. According to The Bangkok Post, unmarked police officers have been stationed outside the hotel, whose location is secret.
