It may sound absurd to ride a bicycle through 35 countries and 30,000 kilometres of distance from one continent to another.
Intercontinental travel, however, is this Keralite’s long-held ambition. He left his well-paying position in the IT industry to pursue his aspirations of travelling the world.
As part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations honouring the country’s independence from the British, hard-core travel enthusiast Faiz Ashraf Ali set out on his solo bicycle journey from the state capital here to London on Monday.
According to his office, state education minister V Sivankutty flagged off the bicycle tour at a local event.
The tour, which is planned to take at least 450 days to complete and is organised by the team Eco Wheelers with the slogan “From Heart to Heart,” is intended to disseminate the message of love and peace among the nations of the world.
According to the organisers, Ali should travel 30,000 kilometres through 35 different countries and arrive in London in 450 days. The cyclist would skip Pakistan and China from his itinerary since they would not issue him visas.
Following his bicycle trip to Mumbai, Ali would take a flight to Oman, where he would continue his adventure through the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Iran, and Turkey.
Before arriving in London, he will bike through a number of European nations, including Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Austria, Italy, Germany, and France. After leaving his position at IT giant Wipro, the 34-year-old young man started going on cycling trips years ago. In 2019, he made his first solo travel from his hometown of Kozhikode to Singapore. The man is currently riding a bicycle that is sponsored by an organisation based in the UAE that sells travel and luggage equipment. Ali’s ride is also supported by Rotary International.
