At the current Commonwealth Games, Indian swimmer Srihari Nataraj advanced for the men’s 100 metre backstroke finals by finishing in at 54:55.
As per information, he finished fourth in the second semi-final and seventh overall. Nataraj finished the semifinal race in 54:55 seconds, which qualified him for the medal event, which will begin on July 31 at 1:35 AM IST. Pieter Coetze, a 17-year-old South African, finished first in both semi-finals with a time of 53.67 seconds.
Nataraj will attempt to create history and become only the second Indian to leave the Commonwealth Games with a swimming medal.
Prasanta Karmakar was the first to do this when he clinched a bronze medal in a para-swimming tournament in Delhi in 2010.
Earlier, Kushagra Rawat was eliminated after placing 14th overall in the Men’s 400m Freestyle heats. He finished in 3:57.45. Sajan Prakash was also eliminated in the men’s 50m butterfly competition after finishing eighth in 25.01s.
Adarsh Muralidharan finished 30th and Vishwanath Yadav finished 33rd in the men’s individual sprint final, respectively, ending India’s first effort to compete in the triathlon at the Commonwealth Games in failure.
Adarsh Muralidharan and Vishwanath Yadav both completed the race in 1:02:52 and 1:00:38, respectively. The very first gold medal of the Commonwealth Games was won by Englishman Alex Yee in the men’s triathlon on Friday.
