In the recent conflict between Russia and Ukraine, 40 Ukrainian prisoners-of-war have been killed by Ukrainian shelling of a prison in separatist-held Donetsk.
Ukraine’s military officials denied initializing out the strike and instead accused Russia of shelling the prison. They also said Moscow wants to cover up the evidence of tortures made on the prisoners.
Daniil Bezsonov, who is a spokesperson for the Russian-backed separatist Donetsk Republic, “strike had been a direct hit on a barracks holding prisoners” and the number of prisoners killed might increases.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Lt Gen Igor Konashenkov, also said eight prison staff had been wounded by the blasts which took on the shell.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister says “Russia making a another petrifying war crime. A rumor goes that some of Ukrainian troops who surrendered to Russian force after a protected siege at the Azovstal Steel plant.
Russia’s Defence ministry said that strike had been carried out by using United States-made Himars artillery and it accused Ukraine of a “deliberately making a provocation scenario”.
Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, said the Russian allegations were “a classic and elaborate false flag operation which is designed to discredit Ukrainian authorities”. he also said “We demand a reaction from the UN and international organizations”.
