Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batsman for Team India, may have contributed significantly to Cricket Australia (CA) winning a media rights agreement with Disney Star worth AUD360 million as a result of his antics during the fourth Test match against Australia in 2020–21.
‘Pant’s Gabba Wonder’
According to the reports, “many executive memories remained vivid after Pant’s amazing century to deliver India the Gabba Test and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January 2021.” The current CA agreement with Disney Star, according to the article, is “greater than the sum Nine was paying, as recently as a decade ago, for all cricket in Australia – AUD275 million between 2006 and 2013”.
Disney Star will be broadcasting IPL and BBL both
Since Star and CA have confirmed their agreement, in addition to owning the official broadcasting rights for the Men’s Big Bash League (BBL) and Women’s Big Bash League, Star will now serve as the official broadcaster of Australia’s international matches (WBBL). Be aware that Star just paid a large sum of INR 23,575 for the TV broadcast rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for 2023-27.
What’s Cricket Australia’s say ?
The Chief Executive Officer of the CA, Nick Hockley, was reported as saying, “We are happy to announce this new association with Disney Star from season 2023–24 onwards.” “Disney Star is synonymous with the sport in India, and we look forward to collaborating with them to highlight the superb cricket played in Australia every summer.”
The significance of this link, he continued, “is tribute to the long-standing rivalry and respect that exists between Australian and Indian teams, the excitement and appeal of WBBL and BBL, and the high regard of Australian cricket in India and worldwide markets more generally.”
