Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad, won the top awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Film, and Best Screenplay. Suriya took home the Best Actor trophy for his portrayal of a determined businessman in the movie. The news is released the night before he turns 47. His first National Award for acting has been given. Together with Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgan, Suriya will receive this honour for his role in Tanhaji.
At the height of the pandemic, Sudha Kongara’s film “Soorarai Pottru,” starring Suriya, was made available on Amazon Prime Video. Suriya’s acting in the film received a lot of positive reviews when it debuted. It quickly rose to the top of the list of movies that people talk about the most, and a Hindi adaptation is also in the works.
Aparna Balamurali played the female protagonist in the film, which was partially based on the life of Capt. Gopinath, the creator of the low-cost airline Air Deccan, and included music by GV Prakash. The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2021 has recently awarded the film with the Best Film and Male Performance awards.
Captain GR Gopinath, whose life story was adapted for this film, posted the good news on social media. He posted on Twitter, “Soorarai Potru got best actor and best film prizes at the Indian film festival of Melbourne.” Suriya has been receiving congratulations from fans and celebrities, and soon the hashtags #SooraraiPottru and #Suriya began trending on Twitter. The ensemble cast of “Soorarai Pottru” also featured Paresh Rawal, Urvashi, Mohan Babu, and Karunas. Suriya and Guneet Monga, working under the names 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment, respectively, produced it.
