India’s veteran opener KL Rahul tested positive for COVID-19. Sourav Ganguly, the president of the BCCI, was notified about Rahul following the Board’s Apex Council meeting on Thursday in Mumbai. Rahul recently had surgery and had started training again at the NCA in Bengaluru. He was selected for the West Indies T20I tour and was expected to take a fitness test in a few days. It is unclear whether he will visit the West Indies given the positive COVID test results. Beginning on July 29 in Tadouba, the T20I series.
Rahul spoke to the candidates at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru’s Level-3 coach certification programme on Thursday itself. Ganguly also disclosed that a member of the Indian women’s team travelling to the Commonwealth Games has COVID-19. However, he withheld the player’s identity.
Rahul’s turbulent career appears to be continuing after the most recent development. Due to a groyne injury, he was unable to represent India in the home T20I series against South Africa in June. He later underwent a successful sports hernia surgery in Germany and is currently making a full recovery. Rahul has experienced recurring lower abdominal-related problems over the years, including groyne and hamstring strains. “Although the past two weeks have been challenging, the procedure was successful. I’m recovering and healing well. My path to healing has started. We appreciate your prayers and messages. We’ll talk shortly, “Rahul had already tweeted.
Rahul was assigned to the next five-game T20I series against the West Indies, which gets underway on July 29. He could only go to the Caribbean islands, though, provided the fitness tests were passed. Rahul has been a consistent scorer for India in the limited-overs format and is anticipated to be a major contributor in the next T20 World Cup in Australia. In the previous eight years, the 30-year-old has represented India in 42 Tests, 42 ODIs, and 56 T20Is.
