CARNAGE! Jasprit Bumrah Destroys England

Jasprit Bumrah, an Indian bowler, destroyed England’s batting order while racking up career-best ODI bowling statistics. With a final stat line of 6/19, Bumrah reduced England to 110 runs, their lowest ODI score against India. Jason Roy, Joe Root, Liam Livingstone, and Jonny Bairstow were all removed by Bumrah in his opening stint after scoring ducks. When Bumrah came back for his second spell, he finished off the inning by dismissing both Brydon Carse and David Willey in quick succession.

Bumrah made history by becoming the first Indian bowler to take six wickets in England with his excellent stint at The Oval. Overall, Bumrah is the first pacer to ever take six wickets in an innings; Kuldeep Yadav concluded with 6/25 in Nottingham 2018 and is the only other Indian bowler to do so. During the 1999 World Cup, Robin Singh and Venkatesh Prasad both claimed a five-wicket haul. While Robin, a former all-rounder, claimed 5/36 against Sri Lanka, Prasad’s 5/27 came against Pakistan. The winner of both games was India.

Bumrah is the fourth bowler to take six wickets in an innings in ODIs against England, after Ashish Nehra, Kuldeep, and Sreesanth. Nehra was the first to bowl, recording a legendary 6/23 in the World Cup 2003 spell. It was Sreesanth who knocked the stuffing out of England three years later with his 6/55.

Bumrah is currently third among Indian ODI bowlers in terms of all-time greatest bowling statistics, trailing only Stuart Binny and Anil Kumble. The greatest bowling numbers by an Indian are still Binny’s 6/4 against Bangladesh in 2015 and Kumble’s valiant 6/12 against the West Indies back in 1993.

Bumrah has also made it into the top five list of another amazing list of bowlers in England, thanks to his incredible bowling statistics. Following Waqar Younis, Winston Davis, and Gary Gilmour on the list, Bumrah is currently in fourth place. The talented Pakistani player Waqar achieved 7/36 in 2006, whereas Davis and Gilmour recorded 7/51 and 6/14 in 1983 and 1975, respectively.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian openers, both scored comfortably in 18.4 overs. Jaspreet Bumrah was named Man of the Match for collecting 6 wickets in addition to Shikhar Dhawan’s 31 runs and Rohit Sharma’s 76 runs.
