The judgment is in, and O Panneerselvam, the joint leader of the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), isn’t doing well (OPS).
The Madras High Court said that the key general council meeting of the AIADMK, which would determine the party’s future leadership structure, may proceed after hearing a petition by OPS to block the gathering convened by the group led by Edappady K. Palaniswami, commonly known as EPS. The court stated that it was not permitted to become involved in political party disputes.
He may be chosen as the organization’s only leader by the prevailing faction, which is led by EPS. OPS’ status as treasurer is likewise probably to be removed.
The party’s leadership paradigm is the root of the entire problem. OPS wants the current dual leadership to remain, while EPS wants a single leader.
The two leaders have been at odds with one another, each claiming to be the AIADMK’s successor. Jayalalithaa twice personally selected OPS to serve as her acting chief minister. When Jayalalithaa’s assistant VK Sasikala momentarily took control of the party and replaced him with EPS when he rebelled against her, his third ascent to the chair was cut short.
OPS is immersed in the most important political battle of his life.
OPS has lost credibility, according to Ma Foi K Pandiarajan, one of the several supporters who switched to the EPS side. He was one of those people who stood with him in February 2017 at Dharmayudham. However, he claims that OPS was self-centered and failed to appreciate his efforts or those of his other loyalists. His reputation has now taken a hit, thus he feels it’s time for EPS to take over as party leader.
Political pundits predict there won’t be a resolution to the problem any time soon, but they caution the BJP to curb its exuberance.
