Assamese Police in Gunfight with Myanmar based Ulfa rebels

Dibrugarh: A gun fight between the Assamese police department and a group of trapped Ulfa rebel militants who were supposedly trying to to sneak into Myanmar via Pengiri district situated in Upper parts of the state of Assam. This laid the foundation for a stage to be set wherein the security forces of the state will be in a fight against the rebel group, potentially undermining the efforts of the state CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is an advocate and the cause for the recent times of peace.

It has been a little over a year ago when CM Sarma promulgated that peace talks with Ulfa as one of his priorities that which was reciprocated by Paresh Babu led group as they have not declared a general strike this republic Day for the first time since the year 1996.

The bout between the two groups occurred at Pengiri, nearly 500Km away from Guwahati, when a large bevy of police led by the DIG Jitmol Doley himself, combing for 5 Ulfa group members along the Assam-Arunachal borders, encountered the rebel members. The bout lasted for a brief 20 minutes before the militants, unfortunately escaped.
