CODE RED! Sydney Orders Evacuation, Alerts ‘Life Threatening Emergency’

According to sources, on Sunday, the east coast of Australia’s largest city, Sydney, was battered by destructive winds and torrential rain, threatening flooding in regions that had already been hit hard in March. Thousands of residents were advised to leave their homes.

With droughts, fatal bushfires, bleaching events on the Great Barrier Reef, and floods growing more frequent and severe as global weather patterns shift, Australia has been at the front lines of climate change.

We are now facing dangers on multiple fronts — flash flooding, riverine flooding and coastal erosion.

Steph Cooke, New South Wales emergency services minister

Given that the bad weather had arrived at the start of the school holidays, the emergency services minister asked people to rethink their travel plans. Moreover, Cooke informed the press that “this is a life-threatening emergency situation.”

Throughout this evening and into Monday, the Illawarra, Sydney, Blue Mountains, and Hunter regions in the central east are forecast to experience the east coast low, which will also affect southern portions of the mid North Coast.

On Monday, rainfall totals of 70 to 120 mm are predicted across Sydney and the Illawarra areas, and dangerous winds of more than 90 km/h are anticipated overnight near the coastal edge.

Maitland had 104mm of rain in the seven hours leading up to 4pm today, while Crawford recorded 96mm.

Residents of NSW who reside along the coast between Newcastle and Batemans Bay have been warned that severe weather conditions might develop over the course of the following day as floods once more batter the east coast.

  1. The people of Sydney will be affected the most and some parts of Australia too. I wish that people of Australia are safe and to be safe during these flood times and help each other in all aspects. Good move by crucial news india to gain more valuable information and what’s happening other countries too. Be safe Aussies.

  2. Floods have become widespread these days. Might wanna rethink global warming and monitor the sea levels 🙃
