The Autonomous Flying Wing Technology Demonstrator’s first flight was successfully completed, according to a statement released by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Friday. According to DRDO’s announcement, the exercise took place today at the Aeronautical Test Range in Chitradurga, Karnataka.
According to the press release, which provided additional information about the flight,
“Operating in a fully autonomous mode, the aircraft demonstrated a perfect flight, including take-off, way point navigation, and a smooth touchdown. This flight is an important step towards self-reliance in such strategic defence technologies and marks a significant milestone in terms of validating key technologies for the development of future unmanned aircraft.”
The unmanned combat aircraft was created and developed by the Bengaluru-based Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), a leading research facility under the DRDO, the New Delhi-headquartered organisation added.
It noted that the vehicle’s undercarriage, flight controls, and avionics system were all domestically built.
In the meantime, Rajnath Singh, India’s defence minister, congratulated DRDO on the autonomous flying wing technology demonstrator’s successful first flight from the Chitradurga ATR. The development of autonomous aircraft is a significant step toward Aatmanirbhar Bharat’s essential military systems.
Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, Chairman of the DRDO and Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D also appreciated and congratulated the teams that worked on the system’s design, development, and testing.
