Uddhav Thackeray resigned as the chief minister of Maharashtra late on Wednesday, nine days after a mutiny divided the Shiv Sena. With the resignation, the two-and-a-half-year-old Maha Vikas Aghadi, which was made up of the Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress, broke apart. Along with resigning his position as chief minister, Thackeray also resigned from the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
Eknath Shinde (58), the head of the Shiv Sena and the strongest man in Thane outside of the Thackeray family, rose up in rebellion and increased his support to include 10 independents and tiny parties in addition to 39 Shiv Sena MLAs. After the Supreme Court approved the floor test for Thursday and after Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari summoned a test of numbers in response to a letter from Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Devendra Fadnavis, Thackeray submitted his papers.
Thackeray stated that he would now begin sitting in the Shiv Sena Bhavan and restore the party that his late father Balasaheb Thackeray built 56 years ago. Saving the party is Thackeray’s top concern.
In a democracy, heads are counted to show numbers. I am not interested in that. I don’t want to play these kinds of games. Tomorrow, they will say that they have brought down Shiv Sena ‘pramukh’ Balasaheb Thackeray’s son.
Shiv Sena is one family, and will not let it be pulled apart. I am not going anywhere, I will gather all our supporters, we will rebuild it

After travelling from Surat to Guwahati, the Shinde camp has finally arrived in Goa. On Thursday, they should arrive in Mumbai. Following their meeting with Koshyari, Fadnavis and Shinde would publicly lay claim to forming the next administration.
The creation of a new government and the division of ministries are among the subjects that Shinde and the BJP leadership have been negotiating over for the past few days. Shinde, who has held the positions of Leader of the Opposition and Cabinet Minister for seven and a half years, might take over as the new Deputy Chief Minister while Fadnavis is anticipated to return as Chief Minister.
