INDIA: The Beginning Of Private Space Sector

The first private space sector launches in the nation have begun with the approval of two Indian private companies by the Indian Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe).

On June 24, IN-SPACe granted approval for Digantara research & technologies Pvt Ltd in Bengaluru and Hyderabad’s Dhruva Space Pvt Ltd to launch their cargoes.

An IN-SPACe statement on Monday stated that Digantara’s ROBust Integrating Proton Fluence Meter (ROBI), a Proton dosimeter payload, and Dhruva Space’s Dhruva Space Satellite Orbital Deployer – (DSOD 1U), a technological demonstration payload, were approved.

The PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM) of PSLV-C53, which is slated to launch on June 30, would carry the payloads.

The first two launch Authorisations issued by IN-SPACe is an important milestone and marks the beginning of private space sector launches in India,

IN-SPACe Chairman, Pawan Kumar Goenka.

In order to support, authorise, oversee, and monitor the space operations of Non-Governmental Private Entities (NGPEs) in India, IN-SPACe was established as an independent, single-window nodal organisation. PM Modi opened the In-SPACe headquarters in Ahmedabad on June 10.

A space technology startup called Dhruva Space is engaged in developing application-neutral satellite platforms and full-stack space engineering solutions.

Through its Space Situational Awareness sensor network, platform, and data products, Digantara Research and Technologies is developing end-to-end solutions aimed at safe and sustainable space operations. The 55th ISRO mission, PSLV-C53, is slated to launch on June 30 at 18:00 IST from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota.

On the 90th Mann ki Baat, PM Modi emphasised the advancements achieved by Indian entrepreneurs in the space industry and declared that the nation cannot fall behind since the next generation is prepared to go for the stars.

During one’s childhood, stories of the moon and stars in the sky attract everyone. For the youth, touching the sky is synonymous with making dreams come true. Today, when our India is touching the sky of success in so many fields, how can the skies, or space, remain untouched by it! In the past few years, many big feats related to the space sector have been accomplished in our country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

He claimed that until a few years ago, few individuals in India had considered startups in the space industry. But as of today, there are more than 100 such firms.

The Prime Minister identified two startups, Agnikul and Skyroot, from Chennai and Hyderabad that are working on tiny payload launch vehicles. This is expected to result in a considerable decrease in the cost of launching into space. He also noted the Hyderabad-based firm Dhruva Space, which is developing advanced solar panels for satellites and satellite deployers.

Tanveer Ahmed of Digantara, a different space firm attempting to track garbage in space, was mentioned by PM Modi. On June 30, Digantara and Dhruva Space will each launch for the first time using an ISRO launch vehicle.
