After title leader Fabio Quartararo fell out of the Dutch Grand Prix, Italy’s Francesco Bagnaia secured the title.
Quartararo lost his balance twice, the second time flipping over his handlebars. He was able to leave the situation, but as soon as he realised his time in Assen was over, he completely lost control of his anger.
Bagnaia of Ducati took the lead right away, followed by Bezzecchi in second and Vinales in third.
Aleix Espargaro of Aprilia and Yamaha’s Quartararo collided on lap five as they battled for second, but Quartararo survived the incident and finished the race.
Espargaro also paid a price for that mistake by falling to 15th place. He bounced back quite well, but his fourth-place finish prevented him from making the podium.
The Spaniard put on a strong closing lap, passing both Jack Miller of the Ducati and Brad Binder of Red Bull KTM on the final chicane. VR46 Racing’s Bezzecchi took full advantage to finish second. Since the same race in the previous season, Vinales, another Aprilia driver, has finished on the podium once.
After losing control of his back tire on his second fall, Quartararo’s fate was sealed. He was launched onto the asphalt.
Before apologising to Espargaro for forcing him off his bike, Quartararo stated,
I made a rookie mistake
Due to Espargaro’s inability to gain any significant distance on him as a result of the incident, he still holds the championship lead.
