After sinking into the water centuries ago, Britain’s ancient Atlantis-like metropolis is said to have been discovered.
Researchers who have been searching for Ravenser Odd for decades may have finally found it. Ravenser Odd has been nicknamed Britain’s Atlantis analogue.
Ravenser Odd, called “Yorkshire’s Atlantis,” served as an important port for freight ships and fishing boats.
Scientists using sonar technology may have seen the city, which located at the head of the Humber Estuary and was sumberged by the North Sea in 1362.
Experts think the buried city was located a mile off of the coastline of Yorkshire, and a brief search unearthed some interesting finds just a few metres beneath the water’s surface. Sonar gear has been dispatched in the hopes of having the buried town’s harbor defenses, with preliminary tests detecting rocks and brickwork.
Experts have predicted that the discovery will go down in history with the discovery of Pompeii, which was buried under volcanic ash, or the discovery of the fabled city of Atlantis.
“It’s fascinating, exciting exhilarating. The exact location of this medieval town hasnât ever been pinpointed.”

The team hopes to discover the town’s outline and then create a 3D model of the surrounding region using harbour and sea barriers as well as city foundations.
Divers might then be sent down into the Yorkshire Atlantis, with scientists claiming that they will begin analysing the region now that they have all of the information they want.
According to The Mirror, Phil Mathison has spent 25 years of his life to the hunt, and the historian has been “blown away” by such “an incredible discovery.”
Ravenser Odd was formed in 1235 and is referenced in William Shakespeare’s historical writings Richard II and Henry VI, but by 1346, much of the town had been eroded away.
