PV Sindhu knocked out of Indonesian Masters

PV Sindhu’s journey at the Indonesia Masters Super 500 event came to a halt on Friday as she succumbed to World No. 8 Ratchanok Intanon in the women’s singles quarter-final. Sindhu was prone to errors, as she was defeated 12-21 and 10-21 in Jakarta by Intanon.

Ratchanok Intanon defeated PV Sindhu for the sixth time in a row. The Indian shuttler now has a 9-4 head-to-head record versus the 27-year-old. Sindhu had advanced to the quarter-finals following a hard-fought triumph over Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the second round on Thursday, but she struggled against Chen.

The 27-year-old had been at her best, looking at ease both in attack and defence, and the Indian had never been able to recover, losing for the sixth time in a row to her Thai opponent. Intanon appeared even more enraged in the second game, racing to a 10-point lead before clinching the deal in 33 minutes to extend her head-to-head record over Sindhu to 9-4.

Earlier in the day, Lakshya Sen was defeated in the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Masters Super 500 event by Chou Tien Chen, a higher-seeded opponent. Sen had lost against Chou for the second time in less than a month. Sen fell 19-21 21-13 17-21 to his Chinese Taipei opponent in the Thomas Cup group stage before turning it around to win a historic victory.
