Chennai, Tamil Nadu: The AIADMK’s under-the-radar anti-saffron party sentiments, fueled mostly by the Central government’s “anti-Tamil” policies, have now surfaced five years after it formed an electoral coalition with the BJP. C Ponnaiyan, AIADMK’s organising secretary, blamed the BJP-led Central government of plundering the state’s money, as well as blaming the party for electoral losses, a loss of minority community support, and “anti-Tamil” policies, particularly those affecting students.
K Annamalai, the head of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), responded by saying that their government is really doing things that would help the people of Tamil Nadu, and as a result, is now the state’s third largest party. “Every leader wants their party to be number one in the state and there is nothing wrong about it. These criticisms tell us how quick the BJP is growing in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian’s comments on Wednesday that students from other regions, mostly north Indian states, cause Covid clusters aroused outrage, with legislators from around the country criticising the minister for making a “irresponsible” statement. Subramaniam informed the media on the current Covid-19 scenario in the state on the fringes of an event in Chennai, saying there has been an increase in the number of cases at academic institutions. Meanwhile, the Covid-19 contamination count in Tamil Nadu has surpassed 100, with 139 new cases reported on Monday. Despite a rise of 41 cases in the previous 24 hours, the pandemic’s death toll has remained at 38,025.
