Sonia Gandhi, Congress president, tests positive for COVID-19

Sonia Gandhi, the Congress president, has screened positive for Covid-19, according to the party’s main spokesperson, Randeep Surjewala. Gandhi had a minor fever, according to Surjewala, and had secluded herself on medical advice.

“We hope she will get better. We will get her tested again and her plan of visiting the ED stands,”

Recent weeks, Sonia Gandhi, 75, has met with leaders and activists, some who have tested positive for Covid-19, per a tweet from the party’s spokeswoman.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) demanded Sonia Gandhi to appear before it on June 8 in a money laundering investigation. On June 2, the ED summoned party MP Rahul Gandhi in connection with the same matter, although he is now residing outside of India.

Sonia got a moderate temperature and Covid-19 symptoms on Wednesday evening, according to Surjewala. “As a large number of Congressmen and women and well-wishers have expressed concern, we want to stay that she is fine and recovering. We thank everyone for their good wishes, ,” Surjewala posted on Twitter.

While the party has stated that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi will appear before the ED, a majority of its officials, notably Abhishek Manu Singhvi, have stated that the government is exploiting the central investigative agencies to attack the opposition. These “tactics” will not scare the Congress, according to the party’s head.
