In the case of the National Herald, the ED has summoned Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for questioning

The Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Rahul Gandhi have been called by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the National Herald case, the party announced on June 1.

The two leaders were summoned for questioning by the investigating agency on June 8 in the money laundering matter, which the party maintains was closed in 2015.

“There is no money involved in this peculiar example of money laundering. The casing is as thin as a deck of cards. We’ll deal with it. We are not frightened. This smells like vengeance, pettiness, fear, and political scum “Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a Congress politician and senior advocate, told reporters about the summons notification that was delivered a few days ago.

Sonia Gandhi would appear for interrogation if necessary, according to Singhvi, but the party will write to the investigative agency requesting some accommodation for Rahul Gandhi. He described the fight as a “political, social, economic, and legal battle.”
The alleged misuse of assets worth over Rs 2,000 crore in an equity transaction is the subject of the National Herald lawsuit.

“The ED closed the National Herald case in 2015. But the government didn’t like it, so it fired the ED officials involved, replaced them, and reopened the case. This is done to draw attention away from inflation and other pressing issues “Singhvi remarked.

The leaders have been summoned, according to sources, for recording their statements under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The Congress party has accused the BJP government of employing ‘puppet’ agencies to intimidate political opponents at the national level. “The National Herald has a long history dating back to the American Revolution. Central agents are targeting all opposition figures, including Mamata Banerjee and Farooq Abdullah, according to Singhvi.

In April, the ED questioned former Union minister Pawan Bansal and senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge over the case. The lawsuit involves claims of deception, fraud, and criminal breach of trust in the purchase of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which published the Congress mouthpiece National Herald, by Young Indian Pvt Ltd.

“In 1942, he founded the National Herald newspaper, which the British attempted to suppress at the time; today, the Modi government is doing the same thing, and the ED is being utilized to do so. Our president, Sonia Gandhi, and her brother, Rahul Gandhi, have received notice from the ED “According to news agency ANI, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said this.
