70 People Rescued After Boat Washed Away In Odisha River

According to Sources, a boat carrying 70 persons was saved in the Kendrapara area after it was carried away by the powerful Mahanadi river current. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident that occurred at Mahakalpada.

A strong current caused the boat to wash ashore not far from the mouth of the sea. As per Prakash Chandra Sahu, a maritime police official in Mahakalpada, “despite the danger, we were able to liberate all 70 people who were stuck there without any mishaps”.

As stated by the authorities, entering the Mahanadi River by boat was forbidden. While flood water was being poured into the Mahanadi River from the Hirakud Dam, boats were not permitted to enter the river. A boat service was initiated without permission.

So, Debasis Rout, Block Development Officer (BDO), Mahakalpada, stated that, the guilty will be punished. Due to a significant depression, parts of North Odisha have been experiencing flooding-like conditions.
