51 People Poisoned By Ammonia After Train Derails In Serbia

According to information, the officials have stated that, 51 people have been poisoned as a result of a train carrying ammonia derailing and spilling its load in southeast Serbia.

Vladan Vasic, the mayor of Pirot told that, t he ammonia leak caused “51 cases of poisoning”, where the incident happened. Vladan Vasic further added that, t he closest large city, Nis, is where seven people were “transferred to (hospital) in Nis”.

As stated by the interior ministry, they said that, t he train derailed in the evening, “leaking ammonia and dispersing a vast amount of gas into the atmosphere”. 

A emergency situation was announced in the area of the 60,000 person city that was impacted, and people were warned to remain inside their houses.

The officials have also said that,  the twenty carriage train, was bringing dangerous chemicals from the neighbouring country of Bulgaria. The incident did not cause in any additional casualties.
