200 Kgs Heroin Seized By Narcotics Control Bureau When On The Way To India From Afghanistan Through Pakistan

According to reports, with the help of the Indian Navy and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), 200 kgs of heroin from Afghanistan valued at 1.45 million USD or 1,200 crores (Indian Rupees) were seized from an Iranian ship. Six Iranian people had also been detained by law enforcement, according to Sanjay Kumar Singh, the NCB’s deputy director general for operations, who also stated that the boat and drugs had been moved to Mattancherry pier.

“The NCB said that, now they have  taken possession of the vessel and 200 kgs of heroin. The six Iranian members of the crew were also held in compliance with the NDPS Act of 1985 regulations”. The investigation is still ongoing, as stated by Sanjay Kumar Singh, and 200 packages of heroin were found with packaging and markings unique to drug cartels with base in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Sanjay Kumar Singh indicated that, the group made an aquatic escape attempt. Additionally, an attempt was made to dump the shipment. There have been rumours that certain pharmaceutical packages had the “Scorpion” seal and others had the “dragon” seal. There were seven layers of impermeable packing surrounding the drug.

According to NCB’s statement, the drug was imported to Pakistan from Afghanistan. Then, in a mid sea exchange off the coast of Pakistan, this consignment was loaded into the now-seized vessel. The ship went to Indian seas for onward transferring to a Sri Lankan warship. The Sri Lankan ship hasn’t been found yet, despite efforts to find it and stop it.

The NCB says that the flow of Afghan heroin entering India through the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean has risen in the last few years. The southern route for heroin trafficking from Afghanistan, that is from Afghanistan to the Makran coast of Iran and Pakistan, has grown in importance over the past few years. From there, it continues to other countries in the Indian Ocean Region, including India.
