16 Arrested After Fake Call Centre Cheating U.S. Citizens Busted In Maharashtra

According to sources, as officials stated on Sunday that Thane police had arrested 16 people in connection with the busting of a fake contact centre that was accused of scamming US citizens following promising them loans.

The senior police Inspector V. B. Murtadak, the police searched the call centre in Thane, Maharashtra’s Wagle Estate neighbourhood on the night between Friday and Saturday in response to a tip. They arrested the staff members there, which three women in that.

He said that, the accused would contact Americans and offer them loans. The official stated that, once the suspects had their bank account information, they would use it to take money from their accounts.

The money would be collected, as per police reports and sent to India via “hawala” after the agent receiving coordination in the US received his portion. Hawala is the term used to describe the illegal transfer of funds outside of known and public financial networks.

Number of Persons Arrested in the crime :

The 16 people arrested which also include the owners of the contact centre, Siddesh Sudhir Bhaidkar (33) and Sania Rakesh Jaiswal (26). They further claimed that when the required legal procedures were finished, a minor who had been detained in relation with the incident was subsequently released to his parents.

He claimed that the authorities had taken the call center’s hardware, software, and data. The official told that, charges were brought against the suspects under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Indian Telegraph Act, and Information Technology Act.
